History of Best League
Best League is a coin-op arcade football simulator game, released by Playmark in 1993.
In the game, the player controls a selected Serie A football team and can play against either a computer opponent or another player. There are several teams available for selection – both for the player and for the computer (if played in a single player mode). 3 buttons in total, together with the joystick, are used to control the team, thus, some extra moves are available apart from the general kick.
The game had simple graphics and very basic sound effects, with the soundtrack being a primitive 8-bit loop of a short rhythm. The sprites were not well detailed and created an overall clunky feeling of the game. As a football simulator, the game provided expected impression, but did not extend on quality gameplay. This led to the game being called unoriginal and boring, despite being well-made with good gameplay.
Best League was released in November of 1992 in Japan. Playmark has created a bootleg of it, as they did a lot in the 90s. PCB layout, fonts and components are the same as their original games, but the PCB is left unmarked. This particular bootleg contains Serie A teams instead of the national ones.
